Unfulfilled Dream to Answered Prayer
God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power (of Christ) that works in us mightily (Ephesians 3:20).
My boyhood dream was to grow up to play second base for the New York Yankees. I wanted to be just like Bobby Richardson who was born and raised and still lives in South Carolina.
In my young boy's mind, Bobby had achieved it all. Yet when, as a boy, I read his autobiography, he focused on having received it all through a personal relation-ship with Christ. A seed of truth was planted deep in my young heart.
So my dream did not come true...but was transformed by God into the deepest prayer of my heart that has been answered so much greater than I could ever dream!
I indeed became just like Bobby...not based on anything I did, but what Christ did in both of our hearts through His cross and resurrection! God made us new creations. He made us sons in His family.
Bobby's identity is not based on what he did as a Yankee, but is based on being in Christ.
I first realized this when Bobby mailed me this note in response to my ministry newsletter: Gregg, thanks for the booklet. Very much a blessing and a real ministry. Praying that 2002 will be a great year in the Lord. In Christ, Bobby (Gregg's underline)
I hope this rest stop encourages us in going forward as kindred spirits knitted by the Spirit of Christ. Your brother in Christ,
P.S. I am so excited about Bobby Richardson coming to speak on behalf of Journey in Christ! In his autobiography, Bobby speaks of the challenge of living a surrendered life based on Galatians 2:20, a foundational verse for Journey in Christ.
I pray every day to be able to personally and genuinely relate to my friends in my new walk as a missionary. This is one answer to my prayers. I so much want to share this event and more with you.
