GREGG'S REST STOP   FEBRUARY 21, 2011

  » Faith in His Name

Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John,
all the people ran together to them greatly amazed.
Peter responded:
"Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this?
Why look so intently at us, as though we have power to heal?
You killed the Prince (Pioneer) of (resurrection) life,
whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.
And His name [the name of Jesus],
through faith in His name [the name of Jesus],
has made this man strong."
(Acts 3:11-16)

At our Journey in Christ board meeting this past Saturday, a board member opened with a devotion on FAITH.  He said, "Faith in others will ultimately disappoint.  Faith in yourself will deceive.  Faith in faith is no faith at all.  Faith in Christ alone brings true life."

The healed man in the above verses had been part of the crowd that sent Jesus to the cross.  His faith in the name of Jesus means he now believed who Jesus really is.  He was healed not only physically, but healed from guilt and shame.  His faith in Christ, as he stood as a trophy of God's grace, affirmed the truth that Peter preached to the gazing crowd...that faith in Jesus and His finished work of the cross removes the disabilities of guilt and shame!

FAITH OF A LITTLE BOY
Before and during the Boys Home chapel last week, a young boy wanted to pray with me.  His faith is growing to be in Christ alone.  Someone has said that the Christian life of faith is profoundly simple as a little child, and it is also simply profound!

Jesus said, "Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it" (Mark 10:15).  Paul wrote, "God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things that are mighty" (1 Corinthians 1:27).

 FAITH IN HIS NAME
During the Boys Home chapel service, names of Jesus were presented to the boys.  Each boy received a name of Jesus on a slip of paper that personally addressed a need of his heart.  The personal pronoun MY was provided with each name of Jesus.  While "Amazing Grace" was played softly on a keyboard, each boy received at least one of the following names of Jesus.
