Good Night Daddy!
|
Behold, the LORD shall neither slumber nor sleep.
He shall preserve your soul.
(Psalm 121:4, 7)
What a comforting promise! In this Rest Stop I share a simple, yet profoundly transformational response to God as He promises to never sleep but to always keep us in His arms and in His sight while we sleep.
May this Rest Stop bring to you a smile as you further learn to rest in God's dear Son Jesus.
GOOD NIGHT DADDY!
I am most vulnerable to the enemy's accusations and attacks against my mind as I prepare for bed each night. Romans 7:23 reveals that the enemy uses the power of sin in my body to always be warring against my mind.
This war is most intense at bedtime when: it is dark...I am physically tired...I am emotionally tired from ministering to hurting people...I ache in my heart wondering if my wife will have another sleepless night due to leg pain that has flared up this summer...the enemy offers up doubts regarding my call to this ministry as a vocation...I think about plans for the next several days.
This war can sometimes get so intense that I feel like giving up, and sometimes I cry myself to sleep.
However, in the midst of recent battles, I am beginning to hear God more and more reminding me that the battle is not mine but His (2 Chronicles 20:15)!
In response, I have recently found myself wanting to have the last word from my lips and last thought from my mind each night to be on God and not on me.
As the enemy seeks to enhance his spiritual battle at bedtime, God my Father is nurturing me to focus on Him (His faithful love and protection), and not the enemy, and to simply say to my Father, "Good night Daddy."
And I am growing to hear Him tell me, "Good night son."
O LORD, satisfy us in the morning with your mercy,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands for us.
(Psalm 90:14, 17)
The more I go to bed saying by faith, "Good night Daddy," the more I am waking up recognizing His presence! There truly is wonder and awe about each new day that my Father gives me!
If God did not take His eyes off of me while I slept, will He not keep His eyes on me while I'm awake? As a result, I can go about my day assured by Him that the beauty of His dear Son Jesus Christ indwells me and that Christ will empower me to do all that God has planned for me that day!
CLOSING
I hope I will have the mind to say "good night" to our Father to my very last night of sleep on this planet. I know He will faithfully tell me good night then, too, knowing that the next morning will be the most glorious morning that all the previous mornings pointed to!
Have a good day...and good night to you tonight!

HE NEVER SLEEPS
song by Don Moen
Integrity Music (October 2006)
Click the following link for an encouraging 2-minute discussion by Don Moen about his song "He Never Sleeps."
When you've prayed
every prayer
that you know how to pray.
Just remember the Lord will hear
and the answer is on it's way.
Our God is able,
He is mighty, He is faithful.
And He never sleeps He never slumbers
He never tires of hearing our prayer.
When we are weak, He becomes stronger.
So rest in His love and cast all of your cares on Him.
Do you feel that the Lord has forgotten your need?
Just remember that God is always
working in ways you cannot see.
Our God is able,
He is mighty, He is faithful.
