"I have glorified You on the earth.
I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
(John 17:4)
Jesus humbled Himself...
...to the death of the cross.
Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him.
(Philippians 2:8-9)
Jesus purpose for living as a man was to glorify His Father. And the Father testifies throughout all Scriptures that His purpose is to exalt His Son.
As a result of our intimate union with Jesus Christ through His cross and resurrection, these are our purposes, too!
GLORY IS GOD'S NATURE
Glory is intrinsic to God's nature. Glory is the manifestation of all of God's attributes. Isaiah 6:3 says the whole earth is full of His glory! Revelation 21:23 says that all of heaven is full of His glory!
We often speak of "giving God glory." However, we cannot "give God glory" in the sense of adding to His glory. Glory is His very nature.
GLORY IS OUR MINISTRY
The Lord God said,
"Everyone who is called by My name,
I have created for My glory."
(Isaiah 43:7)
We "give" God glory by declaring and proclaiming His glory
in our lives! In this way, God's glory is magnified, not added to.
Paul knew this glorious purpose when he confidently wrote in Philippians
1:20, Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
I often hear that our good works is how we bring glory to God. However, Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the glory of God, the very outshining of God Himself! And Jesus living in and through us is God's glory in and through us!
Therefore, there is no glory as a result of our good works. We do good works as a result of His glory in us!
CLOSING
May Christ be glorified in our lives this week in both little and big things! May His life in us light our way.
