   Grammatical Miracles!

Therefore we have been buried WITH Him
through baptism into death,
so that as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father,
so we too might walk in NEWNESS of LIFE.
(Romans 6:4)

This past weekend, I had the humble privilege to be the instrument Jesus used to lead 15 people (including two pastors) through a verse-by-verse, word-for-word study of the heart of the gospel in Romans chapters 5 through 8.  We spent over 5 minutes on each of the 108 verses (12 hours total).

Everyone agreed this study was like walking through areas we normally busily drive by.  It is amazing how much more you see by walking and looking around with childlike wonder.

I want to share just one of the 108 verses with you.  Following are truths the Lord showed us as He slowly but surely walked us through Romans 6:4 (see verse at top).

Note that our English translations of the Bible come from old Greek manuscripts and that Greek words are more precise and eloquent than our English words.

MIRACULOUS PREPOSITION
With
Romans 6 emphatically declares you were crucified with Christ, buried with Christ, and raised with Christ.  Wayne Barber notes two Greek words that are interpreted by our English word with

Meta means "to be along side another."  This is the most common meaning of our English word with

The second Greek word sun means "to be so mixed with another that no one can tell the difference."

The Holy Spirit breathed into Paul (writer of Romans) the Greek word sun!  This reveals the truth of your intimate union with Christ!

MIRACULOUS ADJECTIVE
Newness
There are also two Greek words for new

Neos refers to being new in regards to time, such as a new and improved version of something.

Kainotes refers to something being new that has never existed before, i.e., something brand new, a new creation.

The Holy Spirit breathed into Paul the Greek word kainotes!  This affirms the truth that your old sinful identity has been crucified with Christ and that God has raised you with Christ to a brand new identity and life!

You are no longer defined by your past.  You are now defined by the cross and resurrection of Christ!

MIRACULOUS NOUN
Life
There are also two Greek words for life.

Bios refers to human, animal, or plant life.  We get our English words biography and biology from bios.

Zoe refers to true life that is only in God.

The Holy Spirit breathed into Paul the Greek word zoe!  This means that your Christian life is not just a better life, it is Christ's very life!!  It is a truly fulfilled life!  It is eternal life!

CLOSING

It was a special fellowship around God's intricately written and woven Word.  His precious Word to us.

Journey in Christ has more upcoming opportunities to equip people to minister God's Word.  Our vision is to nurture relationships (such as through this Rest Stop) to be a part of the body of Christ multiplying disciplers of Jesus Christ throughout the world!

Thank you for your partnership in ministry,

 SINGING GOD'S WORD
During the Romans Bible study, we periodically sang a hymn to worship the Lord as He unfolded His word to us. Each hymn affirmed the portion of Scripture we were at in the study.

The following hymn by Fanny Crosby was our closing hymn for the study as we thanked God for the "great things He has taught us."

We were touched to realize that the physically blind Fanny "saw" God's glory through His Word!  Oh how we need to believe that God has given us such spiritual eyes to see Him in all of His glory!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY
Great things He has taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son.
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our Wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

Chorus
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He has done.
