   Equipping the Equipped

God gave some to be teachers...
for the equipping of the saints
for the work of ministry...
till we all come
to the measure of the stature
of the fullness of Christ.
(Ephesians 4:11-13)

Last month, Journey in Christ graduated 5 people from our first 8-month advanced discipleship training (equipping).  The most powerful aspect of the graduation was hearing each student read their 7-page paper testifying of how the Lord had ministered to them during the past 8 months.

This past weekend, we had orientation for 4 students to start our next 8-month training.  The most powerful aspect of the orientation was each student openly testifying of struggles and hurts in their life while at the same time expressing a confident hope that this training is part of God's call for them.

And we know that ALL things
work together for good
to those who love God,
to those who are called
according to His purpose.
(Romans 8:28).

EQUIPPED WITH LIFE
The most amazing thing about our discipleship training is that each student is already completely equipped!  Yes indeed!  Equipped with the very life of Christ and all of His eternal personal resources!

Grace and peace be multiplied to you
in the knowledge of God
and of Jesus our Lord,
as His divine power has given us ALL things
that pertain to life and godliness.
(2 Peter 1:3)

Notice that ALL things have already been given to us!

EQUIPPED BY TRAINING
Below are 4 students and 4 Journey in Christ staff who will be journeying together through Bible-based lectures (12 hours a month) and resources (9 books, 6 booklets, 4 DVD series, and 6 CD sets) for the next 8 months.

In addition, each student has been assigned a Journey in Christ staff as a mentor for personal counseling/coaching during this journey.  One student is a pastor who is also receiving 3 hours seminary credit through this training.

The world trains people to use their natural gifts and talents.  Nothing wrong with that. However, Christian discipleship is training to personally know the supernatural gift of the indwelling Christ as the source of life to be expressed through your natural gifts and talents!

I can do ALL things
through (my union with) Christ
who strengthens me.
(Philippians 4:13)

CLOSING
Worldly training is temporal.
Discipleship training is eternal!

God bless you as He equips (trains) you to personally know and to radiate Christ with whom you are already equipped!

DISCIPLESHIP HEALING

I was reminded of this Miracle Hill logo as I inserted this week's lead-off picture at the top of this week's Rest Stop.  I see Christ-centered discipleship at the heart of both.

I was first struck by Miracle Hill's logo last year when I helped a dear friend surrender to Miracle Hill's 7-month Christian rehabilitation center.  This logo:

1. Is a picture of how we must reach the end of ourselves to see the need for Christ.

2. Is a picture of how discipleship starts by meeting someone where they are in life, and many are down and out in need of Christ.

3. Is a picture of how discipleship lifts others up for the glory of Christ, and does not tear them down.

4. Is a picture of hope, and Christ is our hope.
