One evening last week, I so much enjoyed studied Scriptures regarding law and grace with four brothers and sisters in Christ who are in Journey in Christ's advanced discipleship training. Below is a synopsis of a foundational aspect of the gospel I taught.
BORN UNDER THE REALM OF LAW
Because everyone was born spiritually in union with Adam, everyone is born in sin, totally dead to God. In Adam, all die. (1 Corinthians 15:22a).
God's holy law was given to reveal the sinfulness of our hearts and that the wages of our sin is death. We were under this curse of the law. We had no hope...
...UNTIL...
...God sent forth His Son, born of a woman,
born under the law (Galatians 4:4).
Christ willingly and lovingly stepped down from the realm of glory into our realm of living under the curse of the law and under the reign of sin and death.
CHRIST FULFILLED THE LAW
So Christ Jesus identified with us, except without sin. And He fulfilled the just demands of the law for us all the way unto death...death on a cruel cruel cross.
Sin and death did their utmost to hold Jesus in the tomb. As Romans 5:21 says, sin reigns all the way unto death.
...death is as far as sin can reign.
And grace reigns mightily over sin and death!
As sin reigned in death,
even so grace would reign through righteousness
to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Romans 5:21)
God the Father raised Him [Christ] up again,
putting an end to the agony of death,
since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
(Acts 2:24)
Wow (aka, hallelujah)!
Through the resurrection, God the Father pronounces that He is
satisfied with Christ's work through the cross and that His holy law has
been fulfilled.
RE-BORN UNDER THE REALM OF GRACE
In His resurrection, Jesus was taken out of from under the law and became alive to God the Father in the realm of grace. He returned to realm of glory with the Father.
Following is my amplified version of Romans 6:9-11 that reveals how personal these truths are to us:
Death no longer has dominion over Him [Christ]...
...the life He now lives, He lives to God
[in the realm of grace].
LIKEWISE [exactly what happened to Christ]
you also, reckon [count on the truth that]
yourselves are dead to [the realm of] sin
[and out from under the curse of the law],
but alive to God in [union with] Christ Jesus our Lord
[in the realm of grace].
(Romans 6:9-11)
Through our union with Christ, what is true of Him is true of us! Just as the risen Christ is now free in the realm of grace, so are we with Him!
God has rescued us from the realm of sin and death and into a new realm of grace in union with the risen Christ!
He [the Father] has delivered us
from the power of darkness
[including the curse of the law
and the reign of sin and death]
and conveyed us into
the kingdom of His Beloved Son
[in union with Him and
in the realm of grace where He has risen].
(Colossians 1:13)
CLOSING
Christians understand salvation includes forgiveness of sins and heaven later. Many, however, don't yet know about the new realm they are living in union with Christ now.
And that's ok. That's the reason for the ministry of discipleship. I didn't know these truths either until someone came along side me to encourage me in God's Word. And the Lord continues to reveal to me the riches of His glorious gospel.
Some say, "It sure doesn't feel that I'm in another realm." I affirm them in those feelings, but I also exhort them to trust God's Word and not their feelings.
Our spiritual eyes only see from the realm of grace. From our God-given perspective in the realm of grace, we can see sin for what it really is in the realm of law. As a result, we can compassionately minister God's living truths to those still living in the realm of law where sin and death reign.
Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace (Romans 6:14).
