    A Trophy of God's Grace

Having been justified by faith...
we have access by faith
through our Lord Jesus Christ
into this grace in which we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
ROMANS 5:1-2a

Two years ago, I accompanied a friend for his interview to enter the Haven of Rest mission in Anderson, South Carolina.  While I was at the mission with him, I became captivated by the mission's focus on Christ-centered discipleship.

I started periodically visiting early morning Bible studies at the mission to witness how the men were finding freedom in Christ.  I've grown to love relating to these men.  One year ago the Haven of Rest requested I teach a class every Monday evening at the mission chapel.  It has been a time of great joy and nurturing in the Lord for me.

RESPONDING TO GOD'S WORD
Last week at the mission, I taught on Romans 5:1-2a regarding how those who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior are given access to always be in the presence of God, totally and unconditionally accepted by God, with great hope for a fulfilled life.

I asked for any one of the 24 men to "stand as a trophy of God's grace" to close our time with prayer. A young man, new to the mission, stood and prayed a very precious  prayer.  When he said "Amen" he darted out of the chapel while the other men erupted with clapping and several hallelujahs!

Several men came up to me to tell me this young man was painfully shy and had hardly spoken two words since entering the mission.  They said this young man's prayer was a miracle, a true step of faith by him, and a testimony of his being drawn to true hope in Christ.

Pray that this young man will grow through Christ in the presence of God, and that he will persevere at the mission.  I hope to see him again this coming Monday.

REJOICING IN GOD'S WORD
The Lord is preparing me to teach the heart of the gospel from Romans 5-8 in March.  This teaching is being offered to the public (see invitation below).  The truths from these chapters continue to transform my life, and the lives of many brothers and sisters in Christ that I am meeting.  I believe Romans is the key for unlocking all the other Scriptures.

I am humbled and excited for this teaching opportunity!  Pray for me.  I would love for you to attend if you can.  If you don't live in this area, I'd love to come teach a group in your area.

As Paul closed his letter to the Romans:  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
