    One with Christ
(part 1 of 4)

Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom also we have access by faith
into this grace in which we stand.
ROMANS 5:1-2a

It was such a blessing to share life-changing truths from Romans 5-8 with over 20 people for 12 hours March 29-31!  Lives were indeed changed!  The key truth in all 4 of these chapters from Romans is that God has made us one with Christ

What does being one with Christ mean?  For the next 4 weeks, I will share an aspect of this truth from each of these four chapters from Romans.

THE GIFT OF GOD'S WORD
We get our modern English versions of the New Testament from 1000s of very early Greek manuscripts.  The Greek word for peace in Romans 5:1 means "to glue together that which has been separated."  And the Greek word for with that precedes this word peace means "face to face."

Wow!  Do you realize how intricate God's Word is in describing what He has done for and in you?!  The Holy Spirit wants us to know the intricate and beautiful details of our intimate and beautiful relationship with Christ!

THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
You see, everyone is born an enemy of God.  When God saved us, it was not merely a transaction for reconciliation, but was a transformation for relationship

We were justified means that we were not only "forgiven' but we were "made righteous" with the righteousness of Christ!  This righteousness is a gift.  It cannot be earned.  It can only be received by faith as noted in Romans 5:1.

Righteousness is our birthright as a child of God, although we do not always choose to live out of this foundational righteousness and true identity.

THE GIFT OF RELATIONSHIP
It is only because of this amazing transformation into the righteousness of Christ that we can have an intimate relationship with holy God!

So the phrase in Romans 5:1 we have peace with God means that God has transformed us into His righteous children so that He could turn each one of us to look right into His loving face without any fear of condemnation...and so that He could glue each one of us to be one with His dear Son so that we now have His character that we can learn to grow in living out of.

Through this relationship, God is revealing the glory of His Son to the world through us!

CLOSING
Romans 5:2 says that we can stand as a trophy of God's grace in His presence not just occasionally, but for all the days of our lives, even during dark and trying times.

Standing in grace with you,

Attendees of Journey in Christ's 12-hour study
of Romans chapters 5-8 March 29-31, 2012.
Several of these attendees will be further studying
through our 8-month Advanced Discipleship Training.

This study comes with a 57-page workbook that draws out the life-changing truths from each verse.  The workbook is designed not to tell students what the verses mean, but to provide students with opportunities to personally hear truths directly from God.

Please let me know if you have a small group that I can lead through this study.  I would love to do this!  I truly believe these are the most foundational truths to know and to grow in.  Martin Luther said this about Romans:

Romans is the true masterpiece of the New Testament and the purest gospel, which is well worthy and deserving that a Christian man should not only learn it by heart, word for word, but also that he should daily deal with it as the daily bread of man's soul.
