For if we have become united with Christ
in the likeness of His death,
certainly we shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.
ROMANS 6:5
We often relate the gospel to evangelism. However, notice Paul's passion for the gospel in his letter to Christians in Rome:
I am separated to the gospel of God (1:1).
I serve with my spirit the gospel of His Son (1:9).
I am ready to preach the gospel to you (1:15).
I am not ashamed of the gospel (1:16).
The gospel is the power of God to salvation (1:16).
Righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel (1:17).
Paul's heart was not only to evangelize non-believers, but to establish believers in the gospel. At the end of Romans, Paul wrote: Now to God who is able to establish you in my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ (16:25).
At the heart of the gospel is the amazing truth that God has made each of us one with Christ.
What does being one with Christ mean? Last week, we searched Romans 5. This week, we'll search Romans 6. For the next two weeks, we will search Romans 7 and 8.
