Oh how I am realizing more and more how each and every word of God's Word the Bible is precious and priceless -- truly God-breathed!
During the recent verse-by-verse study I taught of Romans chapters 5 through 8, God revealed to us how vital the prepositions "with" and "in" are.
The enemy tempts us to glance over these tiny words and to not consider them to be very important. The enemy doesn't want us to know God's Word -- remember Eve in the Garden of Eden.
However, God in His grace leads us to gaze upon these tiny words as most holy prepositions!
Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace WITH God
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Romans 5:1)
Our English translations of the Bible come from ancient Greek manuscripts, the language of the land during biblical times.
The Greek word for the preposition "with" in this verse is pros, which carries the idea of "face to face with" someone.
There is another Greek word for our English word "with" that refers to the less intimate "side by side with" someone. But you are not just close to God in this side by side way. By the grace of God, you have been positioned face to face with God!
You were a former rebel against God, but now, through the blood of Christ, God has reconciled you to Him. He has made peace with you, face to face.
However, this does not mean God simply forgives you and you are free to go your own way. The Greek word for the preposition "with" in conjunction with the Greek word for "peace" means to "join together permanently."
Thus, the phrase "peace with God" puts you face to face with your Holy Father on a permanent basis!
You can always look straight into the eyes and heart of God as the Spirit illumines God's Word to you. And because He has recreated you "in" Christ (our next holy preposition), your holy Father can look straight into your eyes and heart!
In addition, "we have peace with God" is continuous present tense.
Face to face with God, joined permanently to Him, and all in the continuous present tense points to one thing: your RELATIONSHIP with God through Jesus Christ!
"IN"
For if while we were enemies
we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son,
much more, having been reconciled,
we shall be saved IN His life.
(Romans 5:10)
Oh what a powerful word "in" is! Someone has well noted that "IN is the biggest little word in Scripture!"
I could write for hours on this holy preposition, but suffice it to say for now that the extended meaning of this preposition is "in union with Christ." The Holy Spirit inspired the phrase "in Christ" and "in Him" to be written over 150 times in the New Testament epistles to affirm your union with Christ!
Romans chapter 6 walks you through how God put you in union with Christ so that you could spiritually and literally be crucified with Christ, buried with Him, and then raised with Him a new creation!
If anyone is IN Christ
he or she is a new creation.
Old things have passed away,
behold all things have become new.
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
CLOSING
In Christ are hidden
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
(Colossians 2:3)
All the treasures that you need are not "hidden" so that you can't find them, but they are "hidden in Christ" so that you, by faith, can "dig" into your personal relationship with Him!
I hope you are encouraged with me to realize more and more what a most wonderful adventure it is to have the Holy Spirit always leading you through the study of God's Word as if you are "digging" for gold -- because you are "digging" for gold!
Even the prepositions in the Bible are gold nuggets!
IN Christ WITH His joy,
