I used to think our duty
as Christians was to help rescue people out of bad situations. I now realize it is our calling to
walk with people through their situations pointing them to Christ the Wonderful
Counselor through Spirit-filled words of life from God's Word, the
Bible.
This is our calling to make
disciples of people through all situations in the world.
This Rest Stop is my brief articulation of
God's call upon each of His children as discipleship counselors.
I am grateful to Bob Hoekstra (Living in
Christ Ministries) for recently helping me grow in articulating this calling
through his teachings "Counseling God's Way."
THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST
In this world, man counsels man unto solutions
for their problems. In the kingdom of
God, we depend upon Jesus as THE Counselor who counsels man unto discipleship
for His glory.
Solutions are not the
purpose of Jesus' counsel, although solutions are part of the results. His purpose for us is to follow Him.
His name will be called Wonderful Counselor.
